Planning for the Future

I am a planner. I love to plan things. I've always been good at thinking of all the little extra things you might need for an event or a party. I plan all my days everyday. If you were to ask me what I was gonna do the next day, week, or month, I could give you weekly, daily, and hourly breakdowns of pretty much exactly what I was planning on doing. I am a little unsure what I am gonna be doing next year, mostly career wise, but that doesn't stop me from trying to plan for it. Anyways, the last time I saw my mother she brought up retirement accounts and suggested that I start one. I asked Eric if he had one assuming that he didn't, because unlike me, he is definitely not a planner. But guess what!? He totally has one and he has actually had it for about 15 years already. I couldn't believe it! And I was actually a little hurt he didn't tell me to start one! Ok, so the point is..I have a new goal. I want to start an IRA.

I have done some research on IRAs and talked to my family, friends, and neighbors about it. Working at the neighborhood cafe has seemed to help me quite a bit in this instance, because I have a wide array of people that I get to chat with pretty much every day. I have decided to start a Roth IRA, I have read a bit and I think a Roth IRA (in comparison to the traditional IRA) will be most beneficial to me personally. Now I am in the stages of deciding which company to use. My brother recommended Fidelity and one of the cafe regulars suggested Sentinel. I'm still comparing and contrasting, but I am excited to be one step closer to planning for my future. My goal is to have a Roth IRA started by the end of October. I am very happy and excited to be getting this underway my savings goal for this period of my life is $1,000 per year. This savings gives me piece of mind, because no matter the career that lies ahead of me, I know that I am saving for a beautiful time in my life where I don't have to work called retirement.
